The following statistics have been gathered from 360+ consecutive reading programs at Rocky Point Academy in Calgary Canada (used with permission). The reading level at the beginning and end of the basic five-day program was measured using the Ekwall-Shanker Reading Inventory. The average improvement shows an increase of 3.96 grade levels.
The Ekwall-Shanker Reading Inventory measures word recognition, as well as comprehension, when reading both silently and aloud.
Although the above data includes six and seven year olds, the Davis Dyslexia Correction® programs are designed to be used with eight year olds and older. Most six and seven year olds will require a Davis® Reading Program for Young Learners, which results in a more gradual rate of progress as foundational skills are built.
Our experience is that students continue to improve as they work with the tools they’ve been given during the week. Since we are correcting, rather than giving coping mechanisms, the tools can be used for a lifetime of self-correction.
